Welcome to Amherst-Pelham Public School Nutrition Services


We know that good nutrition and learning go hand in hand.

The Nutrition Services department is made up of a team of food and nutrition professionals that are dedicated to students' health, well being and their ability to learn. We support learning by promoting healthy habits for lifelong nutrition and fitness practices.

Meals, foods and beverages sold or served at schools meet state and federal requirements which are based on the USDA Dietary Guidelines.

We promise to provide every student in our schools with access to healthy, local and flavorful meals to fuel their potential for achievement, growth, and overall well-being.

National School Breakfast Week

Come help us celebrate National School Breakfast Week next week (March 4-8, 2019) at your child’s elementary school.  This event highlights how eating a nutritious breakfast helps students “Fuel Up for Success” in the classroom and beyond.  Studies have shown that children who eat a nutritious breakfast are better able to learn, have better attendance, and improved grades. And when parents rely on school breakfast, they can be ASSURED that their child will receive a healthy breakfast.

Our goals are to:

  1. Promote healthy menus offered by School Nutrition Department to increase participation in collaboration with the Farm to School Community, Curriculum and Cafeteria teams.
  2. Raise awareness with parents, administration and other stakeholders about the importance of the school breakfast program for student’s success through surveys, menu sampling etc.

We, at Amherst Food, invite you to celebrate this week with a number of planned activities and to assist us in getting the word out to parents/guardians in an effort to increase participation.

Monday March 4, 8:00 to 9:00 am:  Kick Off event at Crocker Farm and Wildwood

Volunteer to serve breakfast to students in the Cafeteria at Crocker Farm or Wildwood Elementary. All you need to do is spread your enthusiasm and support this important effort! 

Tuesday March 5, 8:00 to 9:00 am: Family Breakfast at Wildwood

Parents and Guardians are invited to sit and have breakfast in the Cafeteria with their kids. The Farm to School teams as well as Project Bread will be showcasing activities for parents/guardians to spread the word about the importance of a healthy breakfast, and our future plans of switching breakfast from the cafeteria to a breakfast in the classroom model

 Wednesday March 6, 8:00 to 9:00 am: Family Breakfast at Crocker Farm

 Thursday March 7, 8:30 to 9:15 am: Teacher Thank You Celebration at Pelham Elementary

 All grades at Pelham Elementary will be piloting Breakfast in the Classroom. On Thursday, an appreciation breakfast will be served to teachers as they eat with their students. 

Friday March 8, 8:30 to 9:15 am: Project Bread Breakfast in the Classroom Press Event at Fort River

Amherst School Nutrition and the Farm to School Teams are partnering with Project Bread, Congressman Jim McGovern, and Blue Cross Blue Shield to host a Breakfast in the Classroom Press Event at Fort River Elementary. Come support this important effort, share your opinion and hear why Alternative Models of Breakfast can benefit our district. There will be presentations and food sampling from Project Bread’s Chef Sam and the Farm to School Teams.

Amherst food will feature a new popular cultural menu item in the high school cafeteria each month. This March's featured menu item is Chinese Black Pepper Beef Stir Fry. This dish originated from Fujian cuisine. Instead of beef, the dish originally was made with pork. The dish is best cooked tossed in a wok and served over rice.
